Midway between Quimper and Lorient, Quimperlé is an attractive small town with pretty medieval streets and churches. Stands at the point where the rivers Isole and Elle merge to form the Laita and straddles a hill and these two rivers. The valley is cut by a sequence of bridges.
Quimperle is divided into two parts, the upper town and lower town an atmospheric place, particularly in the medieval muddle of streets around Ste-Croix church. Many of the superb half-timbered houses have projecting upper storeys. Along the rue Bremond-d’Ars are several stately stone-built houses dating from the 17th C
Once a fairly important harbour but today it is chiefly used for small pleasure craft which sail along the Laita river.
