Now that we have mostly decided upon the daily stops we just have to find somewhere to stay! This is not always too easy as we do not want to walk loads of extra miles off the route and we want to be able to find a good bar and restaurant to relax in at the end of the day.
Cornouaille is the area of south west Brittany that stretches from the famous fishing port of Concarneau, past the ancient capital of Quimper to the local fishing ports of Bigouden. Here there are also the bulb fields well worth a visit in April for the flower festival with displays of tulips that rival those of the Dutch bulb fields. Two Dutch families, who settled in the area many years ago, used their expertise to start the tradition, which today attracts huge crowds.
With roadsides and gardens bursting with rhododendrons and camellias this really is a fabulous time to visit for those gardening mad brits.
Brittany travel’s local manager Elisabeth Le Guillou lives right in the middle of the bulb fields and has sought out some excellent properties all of which can be viewed at http://www.brittany.co.uk/pays-bigouden.html
A particular favourite is Cote Mer, a restored traditional fisherman’s cottage which sleeps 5 in 3 bedrooms. From only £346 in April http://www.brittany.co.uk/property-cote-mer-252.html
